Wild Community Connection

The Wild Community Connection (WCC) is a volunteer group of parents, caregivers and teachers who serve as a strong support network for The Oxford School providing community building, fundraising and other necessary tools to enrich the educational and social environment for The Oxford School students.

The Wild Community Connection (WCC) is a not for profit, volunteer association at The Oxford School that exists to support, encourage and advocate for our students by partnering with staff, families and the wider community.  We are dedicated to enhancing the educational and social experiences of all Oxford School students and aim to help the teachers and staff create a safe and healthy learning environment where students can excel and feel confident in themselves.

The mission of the Wild Community Connection (WCC) is to foster communication and cooperation between parents, teachers, staff and the local community to ensure that The Oxford School students receive a foundation for becoming respectful and independent citizens who will responsibly contribute and engage in an ever-changing world. The WCC will aid in the organization, volunteer support and occasional funding of school events and materials to help deepen our community spirit and enrich our students' educational, social and developmental experiences.

WCC GOALS

  • Create a strong school community by encouraging parental and family participation and involvement.

  • Increase interest, involvement and understanding of our school Wild Community Connection. Build awareness about the role of the WCC in helping the school and students reach their full potential.

  • Encourage and organize volunteer support for the school and WCC programs and events.

  • Promote social activities that heighten school spirit and encourage family togetherness.

  • Conduct purposeful fundraising to support academic, social and enrichment activities and events at The Oxford School.

The Wild Community Connection meets on a monthly basis while school is in session to discuss school matters and plan events and opportunities to benefit our school. It is the goal for the WCC to act as a liaison between parents, teachers, administration and the future board of governors. We hope you will consider participating or volunteering at these meetings or in these activities! Whether you join the WCC Executive, work on a subcommittee, volunteer at an event or simply attend an activity, we hope you will find an area of interest that appeals to you and partake in the community and camaraderie of The Oxford School. Please join the WCC in our efforts to make The Oxford School the best independent school it can be!

WILD COMMUNITY CONNECTION STRUCTURE

The Wild Community Connection (WCC) executive along with the help of a volunteer subcommittee will carry out their titled duties and lead the volunteers in the areas of community, communication, enrichment, social outreach and fundraising.

Each position on the WCC Executive is for one year.  All positions are unpaid volunteer positions.  If more than one person applies for a position an election will be held.

WCC EXECUTIVE POSITIONS: Chair, Secretary Treasurer, General Directors (3), Past Executive Member

CHAIR (1 voting position): The Chair is the only position that is a two-year term.  It is preferable that the chair has been in the school for at least one and on the WCC for at least one year but not mandatory.  This position is responsible for ensuring things continually move forward from the perspective of the WCC. They will oversee all happenings from the WCC's point of view. They will ensure all expectations are agreed upon at the beginning of the year so the WCC can implement their goals early and work to meet their objectives over the course of the school year.
The WCC Chair is responsible for setting meeting agendas and dates, chairing meetings, answering WCC emails, and communicating to the school body of WCC events via email/Class Dojo when necessary.  The Chair is the liaison between the TOS Board, the Head of School, the faculty and TOS families.
The WCC Chair is one of the check signors responsible for assisting the treasurer in money management.

SECRETARY TREASURER (1 voting position): This position is responsible for setting General Meeting agendas and recording meeting minutes (or finding a replacement to do so).  They are responsible for sharing minutes from the WCC Parent/Caregiver meetings via email or Class Dojo.
They will manage the WCC bank account and will be one of the two check signers on the account.  They will maintain detailed, written financial statements, including records of all receipts and disbursements on behalf of the WCC, and manage all banking affairs.
The Secretary/Treasurer position is responsible for sharing financial reports at the WCC General meetings.

GENERAL DIRECTOR (3 voting positions): It is recommended that at least one General Director be from the primary division and one General Director be from the senior division.  This is not mandatory but highly recommended to make sure all grades have representation.  The General Director position will serve on the WCC Executive and assume various responsibilities.  At the start of the term, the WCC Chair along with the General Directors will decide the roles and responsibilities of each director.  Some of these roles and responsibilities will include events throughout the school year that will enrich our students and families.  The Chair along with the General Directors will focus on fostering the ‘school community’ atmosphere, welcoming new and returning families to the school.  Events may include ‘Welcome Back BBQ, Evening Parent Mixer ect.

PAST EXECUTIVE MEMBER (1 non-voting position): This position will be held by the previous or past WCC Chair. They will be a "behind the scenes" role and not an active executive vote. They will assist the new chair where needed with guidance, advice and experience from the previous year. Involvement will likely decrease in the second half of the year as the new chair becomes more grounded in their roles.

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE: This will be a subcommittee of individuals interested in being active volunteers in the areas of events, social planning or fundraising during the school year.  It will provide the executive with a list of contacts to reach out to throughout the school year when volunteers are needed.
