OUR AMAZING TEACHERS
Highlight on Lower School
The Oxford School's Early Years, JK and Grades 1-3 educators have recently completed courses to become National Geographic Certified Educators. National Geographic Educator Certification is a professional development program that recognizes educators committed to inspiring the next generation of explorers, conservationists, and changemakers.
This certification inspires educators to centre classroom activities around real world issues and encourages teachers and students to collaborate with others around the world. National Geographic Educator certification applies the use of a specific learning framework which is a standards-aligned tool designed to foster an explorer’s mindset.
Certified Educators are asked to work alongside National Geographic’s commitment to science, exploration, education and storytelling. The final assignment in the course leads educators to create a lesson plan and capstone video to demonstrate the culmination of learning within the course. EARLY YEARS
The students made an inventory of plant materials outside with a goal to develop an understanding that there is lots to see if you take the time to look. Students embarked on an inquiry process that lead to lots of questions about the materials they were able to find in the plants outside.
JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
The focus was on storytelling and comparison of the real life monarch butterfly life cycle and the ways we can tell their story as they move through the various stages of their life cycle. Students collaborated on the many different ways to help the monarch butterflies grow and stay safe in their journey.
GRADE 1/2
The students were introduced to force and movement all around us with a focus on natural and human made objects in motion.
GRADE 2/3
The students compared communities using an inquiry process to build an understanding of communities and why people choose to live where they do. The classroom worked on building their research and mapping skills.
