Senior Kindergarten Teacher

Mikaela Willemse, B.App.Sc., B.Ed.

The Oxford School is delighted to announce that Mikaela Willemse has been hired to cover the maternity leave of Liz Miller.
A native of Strathroy, Mikaela comes to us from New Zealand where she has recently graduated from the graduate teacher training programme at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch; it bears mentioning that professional teacher education in that country is among the best in the world.
Prior to study at Canterbury, Mikaela studied at the University of Guelph, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Child, Youth, and Family Studies.
Mikaela has extensive experience with children including camp counselling, and Montessori placements in Guelph and a co-operative classroom in Wellington, NZ.
Mikaela’s references cited her confidence and collegiality.
Mikaela has embarked on several adventures in her life including a stint as an au pair to four children in Cork, Ireland and a research assistant at an archeological excavation in Pompeiopolis, Turkey. Along with this eclectic background Mikaela has shown a long track record of hard work in jobs throughout university and high school including grocery stores, and working in the family business in heavy lifting, small excavation, and keeping the books.
Mikaela loves “reading anything I can get my hands on and drawing, mostly sketches".
Our faculty will have the opportunity to meet Mikaela later this week during a PD session for Singapore Math.
